Wayne, IL is a small community that straddles the DuPage-Kane border and is located just east of St. Charles. The Village of Wayne is committed to maintaining the equestrian traditions and the somewhat rural environment by careful zoning and community planning. Properties in Wayne range from quaint cottages in the Village to gorgeous estates with a full complement of barns, paddocks and show rings.
The Wayne DuPage Hunt is one of only two fox hunts in the Chicago metro area. Members of the Hunt and their guests gather to gallop their horses across private properties and the local forest preserves on a well-maintained trail system. There aren’t any actual foxes, the designated trails for the day are dragged ahead of time with a fox scented marker.
The Blessing of the Hounds and the Opening Meet brings out many local residents who gather at various jump locations to enjoy the beauty and skill of the horses and their riders.
Horses can be kept on most of the properties that are two acres or more, usually with one horse per acre. Barns and sheds can be built on horse-zoned properties with proper permitting from the Village of Wayne. Most of the four-plus acre properties are on the Kane County side of Wayne.
