There are numerous parks and recreation area throughout South Elgin. The bike path which run is along the river, from Aurora to Crystal Lake, is very popular in all seasons.

South Elgin is the home of the popular Thornwood subdivision, which offers a sports center with pools, tennis courts, a playground and recreation center. Children who live in Thornwood attend St. Charles schools, including the the highly regarded Corron Elementary School which is located in the subdivision.
